big things come in small packages

Okay...this is the last post...finally! And what an awesome one it is!! These cupcakes were ordered by my very great, longtime friend, Chelsea, to celebrate the arrival of her new, beautiful niece, Sophia Marie. Sophia arrived on April 9th which also happens to be my mom`s birthday...very exciting! Gerardo and I have known Chelsea`s sister, Jenn, and Jenn`s husband, Jeremi, for many years as well and were thrilled about the arrival of their new baby. I even got a quick glimpse of her when I dropped off the cupcakes and she is definitely a keeper! :)

Congrats Chelsea on becoming an Auntie again!! Congrats Jenn, Jeremi, Emily and Travis on the addition of Sophia to your family! We can`t wait to watch her grow up!

Chelsea`s cupcakes were marble with pink buttercream icing and white pearl candies.

hoppy easter!!!

Happy Easter everyone!! What better way to celebrate Easter than with a cupcake (or 2)?!?! These cupcakes were for Amanda and Deanna. Deanna wanted extra icing on her cupcakes so you will notice that the ones in the last picture have a mountain of delicious buttercream on them! They look really pretty with the small white pearl candies on top.

Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday and is recovering from turkey and chocolate induced comas quickly!! :)

a vintage feel

These cupcakes were made for my friend, and wedding planner extraordinaire (I could not have been sane on my wedding day without her!! lol), Jenn. Jenn ordered these cupcakes for her future sister-in-law's bridal shower. The wedding is going to have a neutral palette with a vintage feel so I thought that ivory, peach and light pink roses, bows and pearls would be beautiful and perfectly girly :) I am in love with the giant rose on top of a cupcake... imagine a cupcake tower covered in pretty fondant rose cupcakes...I love it! You will have to forgive me for the lighting in the following pictures. The light was not cooperating with me this particular evening :(

Jenn's cupcakes were vanilla with buttercream icing... a classic combination :)

For all your event planning needs check out Jenn's website... Wink Wedding and Event Planning. She truly is the best!!

rock a bye baby

When Jaclyn asked me to make skull cookies for her friend, Sophie's, baby shower I was super excited! How cute, fun and out-of-the-box! I don't know Sophie well but I do know that she works at a tattoo shop and would probably love something as nontraditional as skulls! Haha! I went through many ideas in my head of what these cookies should look like. But as soon as I saw the invitation I knew that I was going to do my best to replicate the image in edible form :) Check out the picture of the invitation at the end of this post.

Congratulations Sophie and a huge welcome to your baby girl coming soon!!

The cookies were sugar and cut individually by hand. The icing was almond flavoured with a fondant bow.

paint the town red

I have added a new flavour to my repetoire... introducing RED VELVET!!!
It is every bit as yummy as it looks :) I have to say I was a little intimidated by red velvet at first but after a few attempts I am in love!

At the request of many people, and until I update my website, here are the cupcake flavours I am currently making... vanilla, chocolate, marble, red velvet, chocolate chip, lemon and strawberry. Icing... buttercream, chocolate buttercream, vanilla frosting, almond flavoured frosting and cream cheese frosting. This, of course, doesn't mean that I can't be persuaded to make other flavours!!!!

baby blues

So I have to admit that I have not been a very good blogger this month :( Life has been crazy and the cupcake business has really taken off! All of which makes me very happy but just means that I have to learn how to manage blogging better.... or not leave it so long!! Haha! I apologize for not being on top of things... so today I begin the ambitious task of posting all my April confections. Bare with me...there are some goodies :)

Let's start today's blog madness with a very exciting event! The birth of baby Makai to our friends, Kelly and DJ. Gerardo plays pool every week with Kelly so we have been watching this little guy grow for quite some time! It was VERY exciting when he arrived 2 WEEKS past Kelly's due date!!! Well worth the wait... he is beautiful :) Congrats Kelly and DJ and welcome to the world little Makai!!

For Kelly's baby shower I made both vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with chocolate buttercream icing and fondant decorations.

I also made mini cupcakes for the ocassion... also vanilla and chocolate with chocolate buttercream icing and fondant decorations - tiny stars monogrammed with a "M" for baby Makai :)

tool time

Last weekend was Marlin's 35th birthday!! His wife, a very great friend of ours, Angela, wanted tool themed cupcakes for him because Marlin is a carpenter. It was also another friend of ours, Russ' 30th birthday so I made one cupcake with a "R" on it for him, and one with a "M" for Marlin! Angela displayed the cupcakes on 2x4's which was ADORABLE!! I loved it! We always have a blast at Marlin and Angela's and it was so great to see everyone!

Marlin's cupcakes were vanilla with chocolate buttercream icing... mmmmmmmm ...my favourite!

Hugs and Kisses to the Swan's for inviting us to be a part of the festivities!!!
We love you very much!

sugar & spice and everything nice

These beauties were created for Stella and Grace's 6th birthday party. Their mom, Corinne, contacted me about making cupcakes for their Golf Dome birthday party with only one stipulation - NO princesses!! Haha! Made me laugh...guess princesses are getting old on the parent front! She did, however, say that pink and purple were most definitely in (of course!!)! So, we decided on butterflies, ladybugs, and flowers. I can imagine it might get annoying to have to share everything with your twin sister so I personalized some of the cupcakes with "S" for Stella and "G" for Grace. I think that these cupcakes turned out to be a pretty great alternative to princesses!

Stella and Grace`s cupcakes were marble and chocolate flavoured with chocolate buttercream and vanilla (pink and purple) icing.

Happy 6th Birthday to Stella and Grace!!! Thank you Mizak`s for including me in your special day!

wedded bliss

I was recently contacted by Dorota, a friend of mine from University, who needed cupcakes for a bridal shower. Her friend, Chelsea, is getting married this summer to Chris and the theme of their wedding is C-squared... SO cute! Their wedding colours are chocolate brown and Birks' blue...beautiful! We decided that brown and blue monogram wafers on top of chocolate buttercream icing would look great and taste absolutely decadent. I think they turned out amazing! I am a huge fan of monogrammed cupcakes...they look really sharp and I love the way they look stacked on a cupcake stand :)

Dorota also asked me to make bride sugar cookies as take-home gifts for the bridal shower guests. The cookies were decorated with a blue flower and brown ribbon to match the wedding colours. This was my first attempt at fancy sugar cookies and I was really very excited with how they turned out. What a great idea for a bridal shower, baby shower, birthday party or any event where a small token of appreciation for your guests is needed. Who doesn't love a delicious sugar cookie?!?!

The cookies were packaged in clear bags and finished with brown, stamped "thank you" tags and a Birks' blue ribbon...
